Trumpeter and Yamaha Artist Chase Sanborn has been a member of the U of T Jazz Faculty since the early years of the program’s inception in the 1990s.
Chase spent his formative years in New York, Boston and San Francisco, eventually moving to Toronto in 1981. Since that time he has been a mainstay of the Toronto jazz and commercial music scene. He has released five CDs as a leader, and worked as a session player on thousands of commercial recording sessions and theatre shows.
A dedicated jazz educator, Chase has appeared as a clinician and guest artist throughout the US and Canada. His series of educational books and videos (Jazz Tactics, Brass Tactics, Tuning Tactics, Music Business Tactics) have been lauded for their lighthearted yet comprehensive guide to playing music and building a career. 2016 saw the release of his seventh book, The Brass Tactics 6/60 Routine, which is described as ‘circuit training for brass players’.
Chase is a contributing author to a number of music publications. He wrote the brass column for Canadian Musician magazine for over a decade, has been the brass columnist for Halftime Magazine since 2010, and currently serves as editor and jazz columnist for the International Trumpet Guild Journal.
