The Campus
The Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto is located on the sprawling University of Toronto campus, smack dab in the middle of Canada’s most vibrant city. Music classes take place in the Edward Johnson Building, just south of the Royal Ontario Museum on University Avenue. Bloor St. is steps away, and the subway stops at our door. Walking a short distance in any direction takes you to scores of shops and restaurants. While the jazz program is small and intimate, you are part of the large and diverse group of students that attend the University of Toronto, and are very much in the heart of the action as a resident of Toronto. You will never run out of things to do, only time to do them!
Within the music faculty, jazz students mix and mingle with classical and music education students, and there is healthy interaction between the various musical styles. It is typical for a jazz student to play in a brass quintet or a music education student to fill a chair in one of the jazz orchestras. While your education focuses on jazz, you will be exposed to many types of music and musicians during your years at U of T.
