Audition Pre-Screening
All applicants to the U of T Jazz Performance Program must submit a pre-screening DVD, along with the audition fee and Jazz Applicant Pre-Screening Profile. Successful applicants will be invited to audition in person.

The deadline for receipt of all pre-screening materials is January 15, 2010.
Live auditions will take place in February and March.
For the purposes of the Pre-Screening DVD only, applicants may play with a live rhythm section/accompaniment or may use a ‘play along’ recording. At live auditions, students will be accompanied by a rhythm section chosen from our best students.
REPERTOIRE REQUIREMENTS
All instruments except Jazz Voice and Jazz Drums:
Two versions of Billie’s Bounce by Charlie Parker:
1. With a rhythm section*, play a version of Billie’s Bounce in F Major; quarter note = approx. 174
2. Play another version of Billie’s Bounce, unaccompanied (solo, with no rhythm section; any key; any tempo)
Jazz Vocalists:
One version of Autumn Leaves, music by Joseph Kosma; English lyrics by Johnny Mercer
1. With a rhythm section* sing a version of Autumn Leaves in the key of your choice;
quarter note=approx. 174. The performance should contain two complete choruses of the song.
a. The first chorus should be strictly melody
b. The second chorus should be performed with improvisation
Jazz Drummers:
A version of Blue Bossa by Kenny Dorham and a version of Billie’s Bounce by Charlie Parker.
1. Play Blue Bossa with accompaniment* (bass, piano and/or guitar); quarter note = approx. 160
2. Play Billie’s Bounce with accompaniment* (bass, piano and/or guitar); quarter note=approx. 174. Demonstrate at least one solo chorus.
