The Ugly Black Woman one night only performance featuring the songs and stories of female jazz and blues greats—Billie, Ella, Nina, Lena, Etta, Dinah and Sarah. This musical journey and discussion will not only reflect on their histories, but also consider the present realities and emerging futures for Black Canadian women and Black female artists globally. The group blends modern and straight ahead jazz offering a contemporary feel on music from popular musicians and composers. Selections will be from artists including Ben Wendel, Seamus Blake, Dick Oatts, and Brynn Roberts amongst others.
